UT MESC

Masaki Nemoto

PROFILE

After working in video production, Masaki joined Mito Engineering Services at the age of 33 in 2011 and was assigned to the elevator division. He is developing communication apps for control of the internal LCD indicators and inspection, while developing his own skills for programming that he had no experience of doing.

Introduction
Masaki restarted in the field of programming despite having no experience, a job distant from the work of filmmaking. He is always hurtling through life while running. What is he now looking beyond?

Providing essential controls for elevators.

Providing essential controls for elevators.

Since I wanted to work in the video production industry, after graduating from university, I went to three companies in turn in the area of progress management of animation production, satellite TV program production, and liquid crystal images of amusement products. Since the global financial crisis of 2008, the third company experienced a gradual decline in business and went bankrupt two years later. I was so grateful for the various experiences that I had had. However, when I thought of living with my family, I wanted to commit myself to a company with a solid management base for a long time, rather than job-hopping between small companies. I gave up my apartment in Kanagawa Prefecture and moved to Hitachinaka City, where my father was based. I joined Mito Engineering Service as recommended by my uncle.
I am responsible for controlling the LCD indicators for car operation panel of elevators. The display itself is not complicated, as it is most important to be universally easy to understand. The area we focus on is the invisible back of the panel. We have to monitor the condition of elevators and use program control to determine the condition. Especially in the event of a fire or earthquake, this is life-related, so warnings of emergency situations must be displayed clearly.
Later, I also developed communication apps for maintenance. Elevators are required to undergo regular regulatory checks, but quick and accurate work is desired to avoid inconvenience to users. In order to facilitate the inspection, we strive to improve the operation screen of the communication terminal, and make the terminal’s screen and buttons to be easy to understand and operate.

"Papa, you always seem to have fun." What will lie beyond it?

My job requires programming knowledge, but when I joined, I had no knowledge or experience. So, I started by studying on my own, and obtained certification for a basic information engineer. Honestly speaking, I hurtled through work, while always remembering new things.
I think I have been able to continue my current work for ten years because my previous experience, such as interacting with programmers as a system engineer during the filmmaking period and knowing how to show images effectively, has been utilized in some way in the new job. In particular, how do we make what our customers want? This pursuit remains as important in my current job as in my previous job.
In order to continue working in that way, I think it is essential to update the base knowledge. Unlike the days when your study at school alone was sufficient to work in society, we nowadays must continue to learn at the speed of change. I myself don’t find it painful and my three children tell me:
“Papa, you somehow always seem to have fun.”
By studying, I can enjoy my work more and make people and society happier, and can be at ease. My middle son, who is good at mathematics, has brought one more joy to my life:
“Papa’s job looks interesting, so I want to be an SE in the future!”
